No Excuses November: Set Your Intentions

Oh hey holiday season, where'd you come from? Oh, out of nowhere?? Yeah... sounds about right!

Ya'll (yes, I say "ya'll")... I cannot believe we are already in November. I cannot believe we are 2 months away from 2019. And I cannot believe that between now and said new year, the average American will gain 10 freaking pounds! 

Guys... we've got to raise the bar this year. We've got to do better, we've got to be better, we've got to set a better example for the next generation. And we've got to stop normalizing the holiday weight gain. 

Now before I even start to talk about how we can set ourselves up for greater success this season, I know some people are going to be tossing around arguments like, "I'm not going to waste my holidays worrying about my diet! I want to enjoy my holiday and all the Christmas cookies that come with it! I'll worry about my weight come the new year!" But here's the thing, I want to challenge you to shift your perspective just a bit.

To gain 10 pounds, you need to eat 35,000 EXTRA calories. I'm sorry, 35,000 calories is not required to have a happy holiday. In fact, I would argue it's a recipe for a pretty crappy one filled with lethargy, bloating, and discomfort.

Tis not the season to stuff our face. Tis not the season to eat until our buttons are popping off. Tis not the season to feel sluggish, tired, heavy, and down about ourselves because we can't fit in our jeans anymore. 

So let's do it differently this year. Let's commit to finishing 2018 on a high note. Let's finish 2018 feeling fit, strong, joyful, and light. Let's finish 2018 choosing better, choosing more for ourselves. 

And like any valuable goal, let's start by setting powerful, positive intentions for ourselves. 

Here's what I want you to do: 

Get out a nice piece of paper and your favorite pen, pull up a word doc, or get fancy with canva

Now write down your top 5 intentions for the end of 2018.

Make it look nice so you feel happy when looking at it. 

And then place it somewhere you will be reminded of it every day.

Some examples might include:

  • Move intentionally every day.
  • Eat 6 servings of produce daily.
  • Be diligent about portions at every meal. 
  • Maintain a gratitude journal.
  • Cultivate joy.
  • Be ok with saying no.
  • Drink more water.
  • Get more sleep.
  • Spend time with loved ones.
  • Spend time with yourself.
  • Slow down and savor the moment.
  • Remember what's important.
  • Give more.
