I genuinely wasn’t sure if my toe would ever be the same again.
For 3 years I couldn't walk without limping. I couldn’t wear high heels. Lunges, planks, and running were out of the question. Basically anything that caused my toe to bend hurt.
It was sesamoiditis, an uncommon tendinitis of the toe joint that no one seemed to know anything about.
I rested it. I iced it. I elevated it. I wore compression socks. I wore a boot. I used crutches. I taped it. I went to physical therapy. I went to another chiropractor.
Nothing worked. Or if it did, it was very short lived. If I tried to amp up my movement at all, it would come screaming back.
Then I met Dr. Hogan. Funny story - it was on a date that he told me, “There’s no reason you shouldn’t be able to get that toe feeling better.”
The romance didn’t blossom, but our friendship did.
It took about a year of beating my head against the wall - and also developing tendinitis in that same ankle - before I finally messaged him. “Fix me.”
I was blown away. Within a few months I had full use of my toe and ankle again. I was running without pain, heels were back in the rotation, it literally felt like a miracle.
What’s interesting is what Hogan taught me flew in the face of everything I knew about injury recovery - yes, even as a personal trainer.
