Episode 105: Starting a Weight Loss Journey With My S.T.R.O.N.G Method

As the pandemic winds down, you may be feeling like you're starting at square one with your health and fitness journey. 

With excess stress, closed gyms, no consistent routine, the pantry 5 steps away at all times, and no one seeing us from the chest down, a lot of us struggled not to put weight on and say bye-bye to healthy habits.

So let's break it down, start from the beginning, and take it one step at a time using my S.T.R.O.N.G Method:

Start Your Journey with Clarity.

So few people take the time to slow down, go inward, and figure out the deeper reasons that they're chasing their goals. But that deeper reason is what will help you push through the inevitable tough parts of the journey.

Time Management for the Win.

As my girl Rachel Hollis says, "Hope is not a strategy." You can't hope that you'll make healthier choices at the restaurant or hope you'll find time to workout. Get in your calendar and write in your meals, workouts, and bed time. 

Rest and recover to re-energize. 

Speaking of bed time, an essential part of health and weight loss is rest. Sleep aids in hormone balance, metabolism, mood maintenance, and obviously will leave you feeling more energized to crush it the following day!

Own Your Mindset.

When it comes to weight loss, mindset is everything! Whenever you catch yourself reverting to old negative belief patterns (I can't do it, it's too hard, I'm not good enough, I don't have enough time), take a pause and ask yourself 'If my best friend was struggling with this, what advice would I give them?' A lot of times we have the answers, we just need the reminder that we're capable of doing hard things and figuring it out!

Nutrition Basics.

When it comes to nutrition, don't try to get fancy or nuanced at the beginning, keep it super simple! Eat protein at every meal, fill half your plate with non-starchy veggies, drink half your body weight in ounces of water, and keep processed foods to a minimum.

Get Moving.

And bonus points for doing it in a way you enjoy! Take a dance class, go for a hike, swim, box, play a sport, whatever! Just commit to doing it every single day for 30 minutes.
