Last week I started sharing the best biohacks for women (because we are not just small men and what we need to thrive looks very different from cold plunges and not eating 'til noon).
They were my takeaways from the Health Optimization Summit where I got to chat with some of the most intelligent, forward-thinking hormone experts in the world.
Didn't catch part one? Click here to listen (trust me you don't want to skip it).
Been there done that? Let's jump into the second half of my list...
My long-time hunch was confirmed. Glasses make your eyesight worse, and you can actually retrain your brain for better eyesight!
Pro-tip: When you get new glasses or contacts and you get kind of dizzy because the prescription is too strong, and they tell you “you’ll get used to it”... tell them absolutely not!
You don’t WANT to get used to a stronger prescription, that’s making your natural site even worse than it already was!
I recently joined Claudia Muehlenweg's program to help naturally improve your vision - I can't speak to it yet but if you're interested in trying it too, here's the link!
I suspect EMF exposure is one of those things many people scoff at now, but down the road we’re going to be kicking ourselves for not taking it seriously.
EMF’s can suppress melatonin which doesn’t just help you sleep, it’s a powerful antioxidant and hormonal regulator.
They’re considered a low grade stressor which taxes the adrenal system and may potentially alter levels of FSH, LH, progesterone, and estrogen, impacting menstrual cycles and fertility.
And the thyroid is particularly sensitive to environmental stressors like EMFs which can reduce availability of T3 and T4, interfere with thyroid receptor sensitivity, and can increase autoimmune activity.
Our hormone health is deeply impacted by our gut health, and there’s nothing our gut likes more than a source of good, quality gut bugs.
Enter: probiotic-rich fermented foods like kefir, sauerkraut, kimchi, kombucha (be mindful of the sugar content), and some pickled veggies.
I’ve been having unsweetened vanilla coconut-milk kefir and berries as a gut friendly snack, and have been starting most of my meals with a bite or two of beet and cabbage kimchi.
Just one serving of kefir has 15-20 billion probiotics!
We inhale half a credit card of endocrine-disrupting microplastics per WEEK.
And that’s just talking about one toxin!
Between parabens, phthalates, and fragrances in our personal care products, flame retardants, teflon coatings, and cleaning agents in our household items, herbicides and hormones in our food, and vehicle exhaust in our air, we’re exposed to hundreds of hormone-disrupting substances every single day.
No way our liver can keep up with the load without some support and we need a clear detox pathway to clear out not only all those toxins but old hormones as well.
There are a lot of arguable assertions in the wellness space. But one of the only things everyone can agree on is the importance of connection for our physical health, mental health, and longevity.
Just look at the Blue Zones (the areas where people live the longest, healthiest lives). There are aspects about their diets that are completely different - but one of the through-lines is they all place an emphasis on community.
This along with tennis are the best choices if longevity is the goal. They both incorporate the aforementioned community piece, cardio, they require mental agility, and train physical power with quick changes in direction which can be really helpful for preventing falls later in life.
Which one will you start adding in to your routine?
