My obsession with diet, exercise, and my body weight started at a very early age. I remember devouring nutrition and fitness articles in middle school. Following my mom’s workout DVDs before I was 13 years old. Analyzing the small layer of fat around my midsection in the mirrors of my dance studio at 11 years old.
And yet, I would still spend the next 10 years living in a body I hated.
No matter how obsessed I got about what exercises I should do or what diet I should follow, I just couldn’t stick with a plan to save my life.
It took longer than I’d like to admit to understand if I wanted to lose weight as a LIFESTYLE, I would have to change, well, my life.
This is possibly one of the most crucial shifts my clients make that leads to massive transformation, and it’s one of the biggest things missing from EVERY weight loss program I’ve ever seen.
Coaches want to just nerd out on the diet plan or workout routine they want to give you. Meanwhile, no one is helping you navigate the LIFE stuff that’s sabotaging your ability to implement said routines.
So with that in mind, here are 3 weight loss hacks that have nothing to do with diet or exercise.
What’s the #1 excuse most of us have for ditching a weight loss plan? ‘I’m just too busy.’ So we’ve got to get focused on our productivity, limit distractions, and start practicing setting some serious boundaries to protect the time we need to take care of ourselves.
We often act as if our weight loss journey exists in a solitary bubble that shouldn’t be impacted by outside forces. But you exist in RELATIONSHIP with the world around you. Your environment, the people you surround yourself with, the messages you regularly listen to, ALL affect your likelihood for weight loss success.
Motivation. It’s our greatest love when it’s around, energizing us and filling us with the drive to act. But when it leaves without warning, it can feel like the wind has been taken out of our sails and we’re left as sitting ducks in an endless sea, with no shoreline in sight.
And while that's when most will stay stuck (or worse, get dragged backwards), the truly successful are the ones who have developed the skill of discipline. They are the ones who pick up an ore, and begin to row.
